=:= the sacred circle: a place of peace amongst the chaos

The Circle has healing power. In the Circle, we are all equal. When in the Circle, no one is in front of you. No one is behind you. No one is above you. No one is below you. The Sacred Circle is designed to create unity. The Hoop of Life is also a circle. On this hoop there is a place for every species, every race, every tree and every plant. It is this completeness of Life that must be respected in order to bring about health on this planet.”

i’m fortunate to know 2 very wonderful people. Crazyhorse Charlie and his beautiful wife live in my community. They hold a space for  Sweatlodge Ceremonies at the  “Spirits of the Land Healing Camp”.  This is my refuge. My celebration of peace & life whenever i get to attend. My time to sit in the Sacred Circle and time to honour the womb i came forth from.  The Sweat Lodge is a place of spiritual refuge and mental and physical healing, a place to get answers and guidance by asking spiritual entities, totem helpers, the Creator and Mother Earth for the needed wisdom and power. To me it’s really a doorway into myself where all answers already are known.

i’m not going to claim that i am knowledgeable enough to write what it’s all about, but can only share my own experience and feelings.  All i know is, when i sit in the Lodge, i am humbled. i feel at home. i know it’s ancient & sacred. i have a lot of respect for the seen and the unseen aspects of the ceremony.

at lodge

i was 18 the first time i got to participate in a SweatLodge. i came to be a translator for a group of german people who stayed at my family’s Guest Ranch.

at lodge 2the ceremony touched a place in my heart i didn’t understand at the time. of course, life spirals, often things come back over and over to be seen and re-evaluated from a newer perspective  and in that perfection that life is, i would come Full Circle later in my life & found a home.

in the past 2 years i’ve been to many ceremonies. My partner and i go whenever we can & bring our kids too. My 2 year old has been going since he was a few months old & the newest edition has been going since before birth.  Ceremony was a big part of my pregnancy with him & a preparation for his upcoming family home birth.  Rowan is my ceremony baby. i wonder if he’ll remember the songs he heard in utero?  Luca loves hearing the drumming and singing & the older kids enjoy playing with the other children. i love that even when they aren’t directly participating, they are still a part of it. watching & listening…and maybe they are teaching while they are playing 😉

Grown men may learn from very little children, for the hearts of little children are pure, and, therefore, the Great Spirit may show to them many things which older people miss. -:- Black Elk

There is a sense of community i’ve never felt at any other time in my life, like i feel here. Many familiar faces attend regularly and sometimes brand new ones find their way. Children, Adults & Elders are all welcome. All ages & all races. This is what i love about it. Complete INCLUSION. if you are breathing, you are welcome. As my friend Crazyhorse would say “Spirit has no colour” and i love him for that.

We are living in a time where we need to ‘dissolve’ separation, not create more. We need to recognize the humble fact that we do have much more in common than not.

We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.

<<<-Pierre Teilhard de Chardin->>>

we all share a hearbeat and a need for belonging and love. That is the most essential need we really have, besides the basics which we also share in common : clean food, water, air, sun, shelter & clothing. we also share a need to express ourselves. the beat of a drum moves us all in the same way on some level. whether conscious or not, we seek a beat as a way to feel connected, just like our hearts beat, connecting us to the hearbeat of Mother Earth. it is revealed through the Schumann Resonance at 7.83 Hz. also known as the heartbeat of Earth, that when  a person’s brain waves resonate with 7.83 Hz, it has been shown in scientific studies to be an essential requirement for physical and psychological health. there is a shift going on however, and scientist have found the resonance to be increasing.  Ha. Science and Spirit do meet! we are on the brink of a new paradigm…..

and this is why ceremony has become more important to me. to sit in gratitude and carry that ceremony in my heart in my daily earth walk. to hold compassion and to dissolve judgement. to feel in the everyday as i do when i sit in the lodge. to touch that knowing that peace is a choice not a luxury, nor something you can wait for.

to offer up the parts of myself that need to be shed, thrown into the fires of tranformation & reborn through the ashes. All things have their place. the pain the suffering. all catalysts of change and evolution. it is a path of self-development & understanding. it helps me remember that my life has meaning & i was born for a purpose.

smudgegoing inside the Lodge is a full sensory experience for me – all 5 senses and the extra 6th!

i love the earthy smells of the many smudges & the willowy sweetness of the Lodge itself. the smell of smoke. the passing of the pipe. i love feeling the warmth of the Grandfathers (the rocks) and the ember glows. i love the beautiful prayers spoken, truthful, honest, heart-centered requests that speak of seeking healing and betterment of oneself to be a brighter beacon in the world. i love hearing the soulful songs sung in a language that allows me to become timeless. the rattles and sometimes the drums that create a humble symphony. i love to become suspended in time and allow my mind to quiet and touch the stillness beneath the surface…even if its fleeting.

i am so grateful for this place.

i always look forward to enter the lodge and out come out the Eastern doorway with a little less baggage and fewer cob~webs.

i stumble and fall quite often. i pick myself up and dust myself off countless times. coming to this place is always a good reminder…reminders are good.

Even when i can’t go inside and sit in the lodge, i love just being there, by the fire. i’ve even had the honour of being the door (wo)man, opening the lodge for those inside.

“Religion is belief in someone else’s experience. Spirituality is having your own experience. -:- Deepak Chopra

its in the Earth based spirituality i find home. all the earth traditions have one thing in common: life is a web and we are strands in it. maybe differently worded.

“Man did not weave the web of life – he is merely a strand in it.
Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself.”

Chief Seattle, 1854.

our source – Creator-is an  intelligence that is within us rather than being something above us (like many typical religions and their almighty God awaiting to judge us). everything is our relation on this Earth we share ~ we are all kin. life is a mirror in the Sacred hoop, as within as without, as above as below.

Then I was standing on the highest mountain of them all , and round about beneath me was the whole hoop of the world. And while I stood there I saw more than I can tell and I understood more than I saw; for I was seeing in a sacred manner the shapes of all things in the spirit, and the shape of all shapes as they must live together like one being. And I saw that the sacred hoop of my people was one of many hoops that made one circle, wide as daylight and as starlight, and in the center grew one mighty flowering tree to shelter all the children of one mother and one father. And I saw that it was holy. =:= Black ELK
